Future Science Cluster

Future Science Cluster
· The Future Science Cluster focuses on nurturing the four key areas in prominent science fields which are flexible nanodevices, displays, future energy, and mobile life care. The cluster will integrate other related academic fields such as engineering, pure sciences, life sciences, humanities, and arts, and to actively associate with the key areas to world-class convergence products. The initial plan includes building the "Kyung Hee Supercomputing Center (KHSCC)" and the "Next-Generation Convergence Materials Center," as well as developing educational programs to train specialized talents by establishing a graduate school.

· We aim to form a collaborative cluster in response to the demand for universities in society, which faces social changes in anthropological, economic, environmental, technological, and other fields.
- strong cooperation between industry and academia
- cooperation between majors (research and education)
- cooperation with domestic and international institutions

· Integrating with related academic fields starting from engineering, pure sciences, life sciences, humanities, and to arts, the cluster will systematically foster the four core areas which are flexible nano devices, displays, future energy, mobile life care. To accelerate the quantum leap in the four core areas up to the global level, 'Kyung Hee Supercomputing Center(KHSCC)' and the 'Next-generation Convergence New Materials Center,’ is on its ways to be established. We are thrilled to see the cluster will bring diverse educational programs such as ‘convergence graduate school’ to cultivate specified skills of students of our own.

· Attempt to change the educational cooperation system in the future science cluster
- Aim for interdisciplinary and integrative undergraduate education that breaks down the walls between majors
- Strengthen education on software
- Establish a college of future convergence engineering and departments for convergence education

· Institutional Approaches
- The Future Science Institute(to-be): Application of Science to Engineering Problems, Development of Fundamental Technologies (Science + Technology), Selection and Operation of Mid- to Long-term Fundamental Technology Fields
- Institute for Collaborative Engineering Research(to-be): Application of engineering to real world problems, a gateway connecting industry and academia, response to industrial demand, and flexible creation/discontinuation of interdisciplinary research fields.

· Establishment of R&D center in collaboration with the Small and Medium Business Administration
- Utilization of research and support space at Kyung Hee University for industrial joint technology development and commercialization

· In discussion with Samsung Electronics for the establishment of a joint R&D center with Kyung Hee University
- Promotion of cooperation between large corporations and small/venture businesses for mutual growth in Kyung Hee University's top-notch research institute (to-be)

· Collaboration with local governments and the central government to create an R&D valley
- By utilizing the infrastructure of science technology belt around Kyung Hee University's international campus
