- GSP students have ample opportunities for study abroad. There are two programs which enable GSP students to study abroad: First, the Student Exchange Program allows a student to study for one semester (usually) at a foreign university which has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with either Kyung Hee University (http://oiak.khu.ac.kr/) or GSP. Students participating in the student exchange program are required to study at GSP for at least three semesters. The second option is the Dual Degree Program, which enables a student to pursue a degree from a foreign university which has entered into an MOU with GSP. Through the dual degree program, students are able to earn two M.A. Degrees, one from GSP and one from the partner university within just two years.
- Students usually pay tuition to the home university for the Dual Degree Program or Student Exchange Program instead of the host institution unless otherwise specified. For example, GSP students are exempt from paying tuition to the foreign partner university. Likewise, foreign exchange students wishing to study at GSP are exempt from paying tuition to GSP. However, some foreign universities may ask students to pay tuition to both the host and home universities.
- GSP encourages students to participate in these opportunities for study abroad. Students are required to have at least a 3.5 GPA as well as an 850 TOEIC, (IBT) 94 TOEFL, 6.0 IELTS score in order to participate. However, the host university may demand additional requirements. Students who are interested in study abroad must decide in advance and carefully select their GSP courses in preparation for the exchange program. For example, students who have not yet completed their required courses at GSP and are unable to find a suitable alterative course at the foreign university may lose the opportunity to study abroad.
Student Exchange Program
Students who have completed at least one semester at GSP are eligible to apply for the Student Exchange Program.
1) Students who intend to participate in the exchange student program must check for a notice posted on the GSP homepage (every semester either at the middle beginning of March or beginning of September) and must apply to the administration office. However, students may study at any partner university who has entered into an MOU with Kyung Hee University regarding this program. Please ask the GSP administration office for a list of partner universities.
2) Students must submit a study plan that explains the purpose of their study abroad and what courses they want to take. Students must participate in an interview in person or ZOOM for an interview, after which a committee drawn from the pool of GSP professors will select the eligible students based on their study plan, interview evaluation, language proficiency and previous academic performance at GSP.
3) The period of study abroad is designated as one semester (6 months) but can extend to one year. In this case, students in the third semester cannot extend the period of study abroad. Regardless of the period of study abroad, students must register for at least three (3) semesters at GSP.
4) Students must pay tuition to Kyung Hee University prior to their departure.
5) Students are prohibited from taking a leave of absence during the period of study abroad or the following semester if applicable (with the exception of illness, accident or other approved instances).
6) The level of scholarship that a student has received prior to study abroad will be applied to the period of study abroad and in the following semester at Kyung Hee.
7) The following are the guidelines for approval of the credits obtained from the Study Abroad Program:
- The credits received will be reviewed by the department head or academic committee according to Pass/Fail grading system.
- Exchange students must receive guidance from their department heads regarding their course registration.
- If a course that was taken abroad is not offered at GSP, credits will still have to be approved as equivalent to either a required, elective in a major or general elective course based on the decision of the department head.
8) Graduation may be delayed if the transcript from the host institution arrives later than the graduation assessment day, which is usually held 30 days prior to the graduation day of each semester.
